There have been a total of 241 fatalities and 48.253 injuries in New York City due to traffic crashes in 2023. There are about 65,000 delivery drivers in five boroughs of New York who try to deliver impatient customers' meals as quickly as possible on their bikes every day to receive generous tips. However, these workers put the pedestrians, other vehicle drivers, and themselves at risk by driving recklessly to get to their destination.
To bring an end to traffic related fatalities/injuries, Vision Zero (New York City's initiative to improve street safety) is collaborating with Grubhub, the largest delivery platform in New York city, by implementing "Safe Streets, Safe Bites". " Safe Streets, Safe Bites is a delivery instruction mode that notifies drivers to take their time and deliver food without risking themselves or others. By toggling this mode, customers will get a discount on their deliveries by keeping the streets safe and can enjoy their food without a worry.
